Комунікативні непорозуміння в англомовному авіаційному радіотелефонному дискурсі

Abstract

Статтю присвячено мовним непорозумінням, які виникають під час радіотелефонного обміну. Автор розглядає головні причини виникнення проблеми у розумінні: порушення порядку у використанні авіаційної англійської мови, відхилення від стандартної процедури (наприклад, неповне зчитування або відсутність повторення повідомлення), а також інструкції або запити, які є нечіткими або занадто багато інформації та даних у одному повідомлені. Стаття розкриває питання, що стосується регламенту радіообміну, саме найбільш частими проблемами з відхиленням є те, що пілоти не дотримуються стандартної фразеології та процедури радіообміну, а також коли вони дають лише часткове підтвердження. The article deals with the communication misunderstandings that can occur during radiotelephony procedures. The article focuses on linguistic aspects of the discourse “Radiotelephony of civil aviation”. The relevance of the research is related to the key role that this discourse plays in ensuring flight safety. This discourse is intentional and focused on safe operation of flight; conventional, limited by a set of stereotyped phrases enshrined in regulatory documents and obligatory for radiotelephony participants’ use, by strict regulation of radiotelephony procedures at all stages of flight. In the aviation industry, effective communication is vital to ensure expeditious flight operations and safe takeoff and landing. Miscommunication or misunderstanding in pilot-controller communication can lead to loss of human lives. Pilots and controllers should always avoid any linguistic misunderstanding in radiotelephony. Uncertainty and ambiguity in conveying meaning through non-standard phraseology in pilot-controller communication could lead to catastrophe. The article identifies that standard phraseology follows simplified syntactic, lexical, semantic, and phonetic rules. The importance of readback has been identified that has the aim to detect any malfunction. There are analyzed factors that may cause security issues in this article. The author states that there are many cases of misunderstandings in emergencies. The author emphasizes that the factors in pilot controller transmission that could create problems in understanding are irregularities in the use of aviation English, deviation from standard procedure (such as incomplete readback or no readback), and instructions or requests that are vague or too dense informationally. In the article the author discovered that the most common communication problem in aviation occur when the controller’s instruction exceeded the capability of the pilot to memorize all the instructions in one cycle of communication. Also, the most frequent problems with pilot deviation is when pilots fail to follow standard phraseology and communication procedure, and also when they give only partial acknowledgement. Another factor leading to miscommunication is unclear instructions or unclear requests. All of the above factors are supported by relevant examples.
